💯 correct Sapphi. Huge issues with statements around western time being in sone way more advanced or scientific. I was an academic in Archaeology for many years and the both political and Political influences in western teaching of history and prehistory cannot be overstated. North Americans to this day refute the antiquity of Mesoamerican occupation and it's not based on science at all. Europeans have only recently admitted that Homo sapiens sapiens interbred with Neanderthals. They were forced to be genetic advances identifying Neanserthal genes in modern populations. But prior to that man, you would not believe the ferocity with which they condemned the idea that a modern man might interbreed with a Neanderthal. That it was even possible between species. Its all just politics and points scoring for power and control. And its sickening tbh
The worse thing about it, it was eurasians who interbred with the neanderthal. Any race that remained in Africa didn’t have contact and so it is white people (and asian people) and our descendants that have the Neanderthal DNA.
Now you know if that had been the other way around, we would have seen some reeeeally gross things said about it.
👏Nothing is trivial if in a reference source people think they can trust... It allows bad actors to use incorrect "facts" with plausible deniability if a "reputable source" says it, not that I think Seymour et al are interested in anything as deep as the origins of time keeping - more interested in $$$. But absolutely errors should be corrected & hope they do so.
Yes, for years the Canterbury Museum taught all us in Christchurch, and our visitors, that the Moriori people were extinct cannibals. That’s going to take a lot of educating to undo!!
This was an interesting article about time keeping although I tend to see the information as support for my young earth creation belief where humans were created with full intelligence & access to reliable timekeeping which would explain why almost all cultures still have a 7 day week and 12 month year. While most geologists reject the worldwide flood & tower of Babel story there is evidence available to support those ideas still.
Have a look at the roman calendar wikipedia page — it’s unclear how exactly they got there, but it’s a demonstration that most cultures end up with twelve months because of how the seasons divide. The roman’s had a lot of trouble because they believed strongly in a base ten system, and their system of timekeeping is a mess. Unfortunately we took their calendar which is why no one can ever remember how many days are in a month. It’s my guess that it’s a process of maths combined with cultures using the moon to estimate months but needing it to predict seasons, which actually requires quite advanced astronomy and maths. Civilisations like the Mayans that used base 12 were better equipped for this.
Romans had great timekeeping, they have obelisks with shadows that line up perfectly even today. But I think they are excellent evidence that working out methods of timekeeping was a painstaking task that took centuries, if not millennia.
Maori had amazing astronomy, it’s the main technology and knowledge they brought with them because of their need for navigators. That and the need to synch their calendar with tribes across the country makes be believe they wouldn’t have been using a menstrual calendar. But the fact that so many societies have landed on 28 days and not 29.5 in accordance with the moon implies that either societies were strongly influenced by women for timekeeping who needed to track their menses, OR that far more advanced calculations were being used than the “moon phase cycle”.
I don’t think most cultures do have the same working week except for the fact that Europe imposed ours onto them. Again, the Romans show deviation from this theory as their “weeks” created by their calendar were longer. There has been a LOT of calendar revision over time in most societies we have archeological and written records of, so that’s pretty traceable.
Not a coincidence, a feature of abrahamic religions. The sabbath is a Christian concept but also a Muslim and a Jewish one — technically all worship the same gods and at some point, they were all offshoots of the same religious tree.
I know that our education system is convinced that billions of years are required to explain the Earth's history and I don't have any problem with people holding that view, we all have the same evidence to work from and there's many items that can be measured that suggest a young Earth so I can handle any criticism that comes for my free thinking. The complete lack of any reliable transitional fossils and absolutely no ability to explain how life came from non living things would suggest that evolution could be called satire as well. Have a nice day.
Lack of transitional fossils? For which species? I assume you do not hold with scientific dating techniques either? You are absolutely entitled to your free thinking. But please dont make statements about lack of reliable transitional fossils.

In a significant number of languages around the world the seventh day is called sabbath. Just a coincidence?
