😱They are exhausting eh? But then that is the strategy - overwhelm with issues & challenges & bills & submissions so we can't fight them all in the time, or give up altogether as "too hard" ⁉️🤷
What a lot of left wing one sided rubbish. Just as well we do have the likes of David Seymour, Don Brash, and the like voicing there rational opinions on these matters.
Academic freedom is about universities, professors AND individuals. All are important for overall freedom.
Universities should not be neutral. Universities are not partisan, but they ARE invested in decolonisation and partisan politics has since moved to oppose this idea — they are partisan in the sense that the right has deliberately positioned itself against their already-formed and well-researched stances on colonial power structures. This is now extending to opposition against proven science like climate change and genetics.
Ludicrous person. An adult human female of the species. Your circular explanation wouldn’t pass muster in a first year logic class. A car is a car. A lawn mower is a lawnmower. A woman is a woman. As illuminating as a black hole.
No more than saying humanity is a bipedal 4 limbed mammalian species, excludes the tiny number of people born with a limb missing. And generally speaking intersex is a developmental failure of external organs. They are not a between sex category chromosomally.....
Decolonisation is the deconstructing of colonial structures, reducing the negative effects these have had, and embracing pre-colonial perspectives going forwards.
Decolonization is decolonization ...another circular definition. What structures? Embracing 'precolonial perspectives'...Impossible because they are premodern. As Barfield said, only thing harder than learning to ride a bike is unlearning how to ride a bike. Your language and cognition is saturated with modern mobile individualist a priori categories and preapprehension..... such as when you talk (as I'm sure you do, endlessly) of transRIGHTS or nativeRIGHTS or womensRIGHTS......Decolonization if it meant anything would reverse this modern way of being and see the reemergence of a tribal participating consciousness. Impossible....but then also you'd have no check on torture, tribal war, cannibalism ....killing prisoners.....all the stuff that all tribal cultures did. Good luck with that.
Academic freedom is academic freedom. You dont get to argue for 'free speech' then try to control dissenting voices. Academic endeavour is about questioning, finding new frontiers, challenging young minds to think outside the box.
The dissenting voices are the 95%. ACT are trying to limit universities ability to speak on issues because they don’t like what universities are saying.
The right have made the positions of universities partisan by positioning themselves opposite to their stances — with those stances often being things like “climate change is real”. This is a partisan stance, these days, but it is also a fact. Universities MUST be allowed to continue advocating for proven science and researched positions. To prevent them from doing this is to limit the power of academia to provide a check on political idiocy and public ignorance.
That is BS. Universities are funded by tax payers and should be neutral...because if not, they totally stamp on academic freedom for professors. Men becoming women is not a proven scientific position. And climate change as fact, doesn't t6ell you anything at all about HOW you should respond ....because this involves the weighting of different values and interests....and so is inherently political
That transgender and intersex individuals exist IS evidenced by science and, until very recently, is not a partisan position. Your view of what is partisan and what is science is warped, and that’s why universities simply cannot be limited in this manner. You would have them unable to say things that their scientists are releasing papers on. Not even the things the papers are saying, just the reality that underpins the science they are undertaking.
The right hold a lot of this as partisan. Academia considers it settled. We want to explore the intracacies of it now. We’ve already proved it exists. In fact, that was always bloody obvious, because these groups have obviously existed for centuries.
INtersex îs nothing to do with transgenderism. The latter is gender dysphoria and noone is debating the existence of that. Letting men into female bathrooms has nothing to do with science; nor mutilating children - as evidenced by the Cass report in the UK....Real science., real doctors. But rejected across the board by ideological administrators at your university. You are probably one of them
You never said minority, you said dissenting. If the argument is “trans people don’t exist and this research done into neurobiology and psychology is all bullshit”, yes universities, more than 95% of academics, and most of the public dissent, because it’s not true.
You hold niche ideals not backed up by evidence and not supported by experts or the general public, and you are trying to insist YOUR perspective is the neutral one.
Thank you for this very helpful untangling. It is challenging to keep the thread through all the side shows and slight of hand.
Really appreciate your writing

So true Cindy. Exhausting alright. These hateful people. So hateful. So destructive. So utterly bereft of decency and humanity
There is more hate and spite in your statement than anything I have seen coming from 'those people'
My wife reminded me of my new years resolution not to engage in pointless debate
Academic freedom is not about universities but about professors and individuals. Universities should be neutral. They are in fact grossly partisan. https://open.substack.com/pub/oswald67/p/a-postliberal-education-system?r=2r3au&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Rational? RW Partisan is now being redefined as 'rational'. The grift is extraordinary.

A woman is someone who identifies as a woman. What do YOU think a woman is?

Your definition literally excludes intersex women, who are not by your conceptual understanding “female”. Try again.

List these perspectives and structures
